Police Blotter: June 7, 2023

Monday, June 26
Claremont Police Department officers responded to Knight Claremont Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 620 Auto Center Drive, at 4:44 p.m. to investigate a vehicle theft. Police say on June 21 an individual purchased a car from the dealer using a fraudulent cashiers check. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Tuesday, June 27
Officers were flagged down by a person at the corner of Indian Hill Boulevard and Arrow Highway to report an adult male had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl. The alleged assault occurred inside the suspect’s car at the parking structure in the 400 block of First Street. The victim and the suspect had apparently corresponded online before meeting in person. After an investigation officers identified the suspect as Ontario resident Angel Nunez, 22, and arrested him later that day at Farmers Boy restaurant, 2790 N. Garey Ave., Pomona. Nunez was charged with four felonies: sodomy of a person under 16, oral copulation with a person under 16, sexual penetration of person under 18 and unlawful sex with a minor. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of sale of alcohol to a minor. He was taken to the Claremont jail where he was held for court.

 

Wednesday, June 28
Officers on patrol conducted a 1:40 a.m. traffic stop of a cyclist on Arrow Highway at Bucknell Avenue for riding without a light or rear red reflector. When police questioned Crowley, Texas resident Bradley Bowcock, 37, they learned he was on parole and had a parole violation warrant. A subsequent search allegedly turned up hyperemic needles, and he was arrested on the warrant and for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Claremont jail where he was booked, and later transported to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he was held on the parole warrant.

 

Friday, June 30
Police were called at 3:45 a.m. about a solo vehicle collision at Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 Freeway. When officers arrived they spotted the car, which had apparently knocked a sign down and collided with a fence on the eastbound onramp. Police say the driver, Claremont resident Jamie Gutierrez, 46, was still behind the wheel and displayed signs of being intoxicated. He was arrested for DUI and for having a suspended license. He was transported to the CPD jail, booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

 

Saturday, July 1
Police pulled over the driver of a grey sedan at 10:25 a.m. near the corner of Garey Avenue and College Way because the car did not have a license plate. A records check revealed the car had been rented in Cupertino, California, and never returned. Also, a license plate in the rear window was registered to a stolen vehicle in Santa Clara County. While searching the car police discovered multiple bottles of alcohol which the suspect had allegedly just stolen from the Vons on Baseline Road. Police arrested Isaiah Farley, 23, of Los Angeles for felony grand theft auto, felony possession of stolen vehicle and misdemeanor shoplifting. He also had a warrant. He was taken to the Claremont jail where he was booked and held for court.

 

Sunday, July 2
Police received a 9 p.m. 911 call about a domestic dispute between a man and a woman in the 2000 block of La Sierra Way. Police detained the couple and while conducting a welfare check of the home discovered a large grow operation of hallucinogenic mushrooms and an unregistered firearm that did not have serial number. Police say there were also minor children in the residence. Claremont residents Waley Yiu, 38, and Alyssa Liang 45, were arrested for felony child endangerment, possession of the unregistered firearm and for the mushroom grow. Yiu was also arrested for misdemeanor criminal threats. They were transported to the Claremont jail where they were booked and  held for court.
