Police Blotter: May 26, 2023

Sunday, May 14
At 4:32 p.m. Claremont Police Department officers pulled over Menifee resident Bobby Stevens, 48, on Mount Baldy Road near Flat River because of an alleged equipment violation on his Porsche. They talked to Stevens and said he did not have a valid driver’s license and appeared to be intoxicated. Officers conducted field sobriety tests and placed Stevens under arrest for driving without a license and DUI. He was transported to the Claremont jail where he was booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

 

Tuesday, May 16
Officers conducted a traffic stop at 12:12 p.m. in the 800 block of S. Indian Hill Boulevard after allegedly witnessing a driver run a stop sign. Police questioned the driver, James Ruiz, 50, of Chino, and a subsequent records check showed he had a misdemeanor warrant. A background check of his passenger, 49-year-old Pomonan Rachel Ronquillo, revealed a no-bail felony warrant. The two were arrested, taken to the CPD jail, and booked. Ruiz was released with a citation while Ronquillo was held for court.

At approximately 2 p.m. police received a call about a man breaking into the Health Service Alliance office building at 220 S. Indian Hill Blvd. The caller reported seeing a man remove a window screen to access the business. Arriving officers located the 36-year-old unhoused man inside the office. The suspect allegedly ignored verbal commands to stop and fled out a back door and onto the roof. Police eventually found him hiding in a roof access area of the building. He was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest and was transported to the CPD jail where he was held for court.

 

Wednesday, May 17
Police pulled over Claremont resident John David Gutierrez, 67, at 9 a.m. in the 800 block of south Indian Hill Boulevard for alleged moving and equipment violations. While speaking to Gutierrez, police reported he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. A background check showed he also had three San Bernardino County warrants for narcotics and traffic violations. Gutierrez was arrested and transported to the Claremont jail where a search allegedly turned up heroin. He was charged with driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle while addicted to a controlled substance, and possession of controlled substance, all misdemeanors. He was then held for detoxification and later released with citations to appear in court.

Claremont police received information about possible prostitution at a massage parlor in the 900 block of Foothill Boulevard about noon and sent a plain clothes officer to the business to pay for a massage. They alleged the masseuse then solicited a sex act during the officer’s visit. Police arrested Lanni Wang Chan, 34, of El Monte for misdemeanor solicitation and transported her to the police station where she was booked and released with citation.

 

Thursday, May 18
Police received a call at approximately 8 p.m. about a pedestrian in the roadway. A short time later officers caught up with Robert Castro, 32, walking in the middle of Arrow Highway near Mountain Avenue. A records check showed he had an active felony no-bail probation violation warrant. He was arrested, taken to the Claremont jail where he was booked and later transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

 

Friday, May 19
Claremont police conducted a drunk driving enforcement detail from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. The operation, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, included two police cars patrolling the city. At 10 p.m. police received a call about a possible drunk driver on Second Street near Oberlin Avenue indicating the driver may have hit a parked car. Officers from the special detail caught up with Claremont resident Jonathan Aragon, 42, a short distance away and said he appeared intoxicated. Police administered field sobriety tests and arrested him for DUI. At 12:15 a.m. officers pulled over Pomona resident Dennis Minero, 45, on Monte Vista Avenue at Moreno Street in Montclair for an alleged  equipment violation. Police reported he appeared to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. Both men were taken to the CPD jail held for detoxification and released with citations.

 

Saturday, May 20
Officers on patrol at 9:15 p.m. reported seeing a vehicle make a U-turn on a red light at Towne Avenue and Baseline Road. Officers pulled over the driver, Tami Hanlon, 55, of Claremont, at Glen Way and reported she appeared intoxicated. She was arrested for DUI, transported to the CPD jail, booked, held for detoxification, and released with citations to appear in court.

Officers on patrol at 11:45 p.m. reportedly saw a car speeding south on Indian Hill Boulevard and running several red lights. Police pulled over Edgar Barajas, 32, of Montclair in the 800 block of Indian Hill and reported smelling alcohol on his breath. Barajas reportedly failed field sobriety tests after which officers placed him under arrest for DUI. He was transported to the CPD jail, booked, held for detoxification, and released with citations to appear in court.
