Police blotter 6-9-17

Wednesday, May 31

A Pomona man driving with his infant son in his car was arrested after trying to flee police. Adolfo Valdovin, 20, was found by police in a mobile home park around 2:16 p.m. on the 11000 block of Chandler Lane in Pomona. Mr. Valdovin got into his car to leave from the residence, and police pulled him over for having a broken brake light, according to Lt. Mike Ciszek of the Claremont Police Department. Mr. Valdovin briefly fled, traveling two-tenths of a mile before pulling over again. He was arrested, and police found his nine-month-old son in the backseat of the car. Mr. Valdovin was charged with the pursuit, driving without a license and child endangerment. He was previously wanted for a string of car thefts from the Village West parking structure in March 2017.

A purse containing $20 was stolen from a car parked in Evey Canyon. Between 3 p.m. and 4:53 p.m., the unknown thief smashed the passenger window of the victim’s Lexus ES300 and took the goods. There is no suspect information.

An unidentified thief broke into a home on the 800 block of Alamosa Drive. Between 7:30 and 7:40 p.m. the burglar shattered the glass sliding door of the home and ransacked numerous rooms, making off with an unknown amount of goods. There is no suspect information.

Police are looking into a suspected arson attempt on Mount Baldy Road and Strasbourg Court. Around 10:30 p.m., a person driving a light-colored Chrysler 300 placed a five-gallon container of gasoline between two light power boxes belonging to the city. The liquid caused the boxes to spark up, but there was only minor damage. An investigation is ongoing.

Thursday, June 1

A car thief got away from police after fleeing from a stolen car. Police found the 2000 Honda Civic, which was reported stolen out of Claremont the day before, in an apartment complex near the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Garey Avenue around 4:12 a.m., Lt. Ciszek said. Officers staked out the area until the purported thief got into the vehicle and drove away. When he noticed officers tailing him, he jumped out of the car and fled on foot and into Crest Mobile Manor. Police were unable to locate him. He is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, with tattoos on both arms, wearing a blue baseball cap, a long-sleeved hooded sweatshirt, blue basketball shorts, white shoes and was carrying a black backpack.

Two other cars were broken into at the Evey Canyon turnout. Between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., the thief smashed the window of the victim’s Nissan X-Terra and stole $80 worth of goods, including a purse and clothing. Around the same time, a second car was broken into via a smashed window, with the thief stealing the victim’s wallet.

Saturday, June 3

A handgun and a purse were stolen from a car on the 1500 block of Whittier. Around 1:30 p.m., the thief smashed the driver’s side window of the victim’s Honda and stole a 9-millimeter Beretta handgun and the purse.
