Tuesday, July 2

Police arrested Andrew Lopez, 38, on suspicion of stealing a car and possessing drugs. Officers pulled over a red Toyota pickup truck around 8:10 a.m. at Berkeley Avenue and Tenth Street after finding out it had been stolen from Montclair on June 30, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. Mr. Lopez was arrested without incident and police allegedly found meth in his possession. More meth was found after he was booked at the Claremont Police Department jail, Lt. Walters said, which added an extra charge of bringing narcotics into a jail.

Police are looking for an approximately 18-year-old man who was seen stealing an iPhone from T-Mobile on 416 Auto Center Drive. Around 12:15 p.m., the teen yanked the iPhone XS, valued at $1,000, from the display case and took off, Lt. Walters said. He was described as Hispanic, five feet, six inches tall, weighing 150 pounds with brown hair.

What started as a routine traffic stop turned into an arrest for drugs and a warrant. An officer pulled over a car for a vehicle code violation at Villanova Drive and Arrow Highway around 10:40 p.m. The driver, 33-year-old Jose Caudillo from Pomona, had a warrant out of San Bernardino County and was allegedly in possession of meth. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

 

Wednesday, July 3

Police arrested a man after he led police on a pursuit in a stolen car. Officers tried to pull over a 2005 Honda Accord around 10:40 a.m. at Indian Hill and San Jose after discovering it had been stolen, Lt. Walters said. The driver, later identified as 34-year-old Gabriel Cortes, didn’t stop, and led police on a pursuit into Pomona. The car crashed into a curb on the 1700 block of Larkspur, where Mr. Cortes tried to run on foot but was caught by police while trying to scale a fence into a residential property. Mt. Cortes was arrested on suspicion of stealing the car and felony evading.

 

Thursday, July 4

Independence Day was a busy one for Claremont officers, who responded to 31 calls for fireworks around the city, starting at 10 p.m. and lasting until 5:16 a.m. on the morning of July 5, according to police logs. In the same time frame, two men were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence—30-year-old Edwin Casasola was arrested for DUI and possession of cocaine around 11:15 p.m. on the 2400 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Verne, after officers followed him from Claremont, and 20-year-old Gerardo Angel of Montclair was arrested at 4:19 a.m. for driving under the influence at the AM/PM parking lot on 701 E. Foothill Blvd.

 

Friday, July 5

A Claremont man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. Officers arrived to the home on the 2500 block of Bonnie Brae around 2:30 p.m. and arrested a 46-year-old male. The victim, a 45-year-old woman, suffered no injuries, Lt. Walters said.

 

Monday, July 8

Jonathan Owens, 29, was arrested after police found drugs and brass knuckles in a stolen car. Officers were called to a gas station at 699 E. Foothill Blvd. around 10:30 p.m. on a suspicious subject call, and found a Ford Edge occupied by Mr. Owens, Lt. Walters said. A second person was at the scene but fled when officers arrived and was not location. A search of the car unveiled that it was stolen, and police allegedly found hypodermic needles, meth and a pair of brass knuckles. Mr. Owens was arrested and taken to CPD jail.
