Police blotter 3-13-20

Monday, March 2

A Claremont teen was arrested for DUI after crashing his Toyota Avalon into a city light pole. Around 11:52 p.m., Hunter Esquivel, 19, was driving east on Radcliffe Drive “at excessive speeds” when he allegedly spun out, hit a curb on the north end of Radcliffe, two plants in the front yard of a home on Pembroke Court and into a city light pole, Det. Matt Hamill of the Claremont Police Department said. Mr. Esquivel was not injured, but police determined he was driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail. The light pole was destroyed.

Tuesday, March 3

A Village business owner arrived to work to find that someone tried to break in. Around 1:47 p.m., the victim went to open his door and found the lock was stuck inside the metal doorframe. Several pry marks were also seen around the door. There was no evidence of entry into the building, and police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a home on the 4200 block of Piedmont Mesa was burglarized between 1:40 and 3:10 p.m.. Thieves entered the home through an unlocked rear gate and an unlocked sliding glass door, taking two iPads and a backpack containing study notes, pens and reading glasses, Det. Hamill said. All told, the loss was about $175. There is no suspect information.

Thursday, March 5

Police arrested 36-year-old Adam London at Claremont Boulevard and Monte Vista Avenue after he gave them a false name and was in possession of needles. Once police figured out Mr. London’s true name, they found he had a warrant out for his arrest. Once they found the hypodermic needles, they arrested Mr. London and took him to CPD jail, where he was booked and released with a citation.

Saturday, March 7

Police arrested a Pomona man after they allegedly found meth and a meth pipe while responding to a disturbance. Officers arrived to the 300 block of Springfield around 9:52 a.m. on a call of a man and a woman arguing, Det. Hamill said. The man, 32-year-old Jessee Lopez, was found to be in possession of the drugs and had a warrant out for his arrest. He was taken to CPD jail. The woman was not arrested.

Sunday, March 8

A Claremont man was arrested after he allegedly pushing his father to the ground and punching him during a drunken melee. Just before 9 p.m., The 27-year-old man was repeatedly pounding on the back door of he home on the 900 block of Cardinal Cushing when he ran around to the front and pushed a set of French doors so hard, it broke one of the locks. The suspect’s father was trying to keep the suspect from entering, and was pushed to the ground and punched with a closed fist, Det. Hamill said. A neighbor intervened, escorting the man out of the house. He was later arrested for battery, vandalism and public intoxication.
