Claremont police arrest man who pointed gun at off-duty officers.

Claremont police arrested a 21-year-old Upland resident after he brandished a gun and pointed it at two off-duty officers on Wednesday in Claremont.

According to a news release from Claremont Police, the two off-duty police officers were driving on Foothill Boulevard when they noticed a man in a maroon Nissan driving erratically behind them while honking the horn. The officers turned north on Indian Hill Boulevard and into a turn pocket when the suspect pulled up next to their vehicle. The driver produced a handgun and pointed it directly at the officers, with his finger on the trigger, while yelling at them. The officers were able to drive away once traffic cleared but the suspect continued to follow them.

They called 9-1-1 and Claremont officers responded conducting a high-risk traffic stop on Bonita Ave west of Indian Hill where the suspect was detained without further incident. While conducting a search of the vehicle Claremont police discovered a loaded 9 mm Glock called a “ghost gun”  because it has not serial number. They also found methamphetamine and a meth pipe. The suspect displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The suspect was arrested and booked at Claremont jail on multiple charges including, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, being under the influence of a controlled substance while armed, and brandishing a firearm.
