A 31-year-old homeless man who was accused of attempting to steal a charity donation jar from the Chevron station at 699 E. Foothill Blvd., ended up being arrested instead for “misappropriation of found property,” a credit card. Claremont cops arrived at 12:30 p.m. to investigate the alleged attempted theft. Once there they saw a man fitting the description of the suspect walking away from the scene. Police determined he left the gas station without taking the charity jar, but a search allegedly turned up a Bank of America credit card in his right sock. The man said he found the card on the floor of the Chevron station, police say. He was arrested on the unusual misdemeanor “misappropriation” charge, booked, and released with a citation to appear in court.

Officers on patrol at 10:05 p.m. noticed expired registration tags on a 2007 Ford Mustang and pulled it over at the Shell station at 747 S. Indian Hill Blvd. The driver, Marco Frescas, 48, of Pomona, was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine, and had two misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest, one from West Covina and the other from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office. Mr. Frescas was arrested on the misdemeanor drug charge, the two warrants, and issued a ticket for the expired registration. He was booked and released with citation to appear in Pomona court to answer for the possession charge and the warrants.

A 56-year-old Claremont woman called police at 3:45 a.m. to report that her ex-husband had assaulted her. Officers responded to the 600 block of Montgomery Circle and arrested a 57-year-old Claremont man for domestic violence and violating a court order. Police say the man, against whom the victim had a restraining order, showed up at her home “and started pulling and banging on the screen door. After she came downstairs, he pushed her and grabbed her neck.” The man was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence because the victim had no visible injuries. Had there been visible injuries, he would have been charged with a felony. The alleged assailant was booked and held for court in the Claremont jail.
