Claremont High School’s theater department recently received a $100,000 donation.

The gift, from 2006 Claremont High School alumnus and Thespian Troupe #2129 member Jaryd Hochberger, was announced during the January 19 Claremont Unified School District Board of Education meeting.

Hochberger said in a statement that the contribution “is a direct result of teachers like [former CHS Theater Department Director] Ms. Krista Carson Elhai and their impact on me.”

“As a CHS Theater student learning the backstage craft under Ms. Elhai, I also attained the work ethic that I carry today,” Hochberger said. “I want to extend my congratulations and support to [current CHS Theater Department Director] Mr. Mohammed Mangrio as he takes this incredible program into the future.”

Hochberger participated in CHS theater from 2002 to 2006. The school’s theater program recently kicked off its 60th season.

“CHS Theatre receives Jaryd’s gift with great gratitude and also a sense of great responsibility,” Mangrio said in a statement. “This donation allows us to continue to offer a welcoming environment where CHS students find both community and a home in which to develop their talents.”
