The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team won its second straight national title on May 17, defeating the University of Chicago, 5-3, at the NCAA Division III national team tournament at the United States Tennis Association’s National Campus in Florida.

It was the second time in two years CMS defeated UChicago for the national title.

On May 20, Harvey Mudd College’s Alisha Chulani fell to Pomona-Pitzer’s Angie Zhou, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Division III singles tournament to conclude the Athenas season.

The women closed out 2022-2023 with a 27-1 record, 7-0 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, a 23-match winning streak, the SCIAC league and tournament titles, the NCAA regional title, and the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis team title. The team also avenged its only defeat of the season, which came against UChicago on March 5 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Championships.

The Athenas will be back: they had no seniors on its NCAA roster this year.
