Boys basketball

Bonita dealt Claremont its 23rd loss of the season, 51-32, on January 27. Ayala compounded the misery Tuesday when it downed the Pack, 80-37. The team is 3-24 overall, 0-9 in league, and finished sixth in Palomares League play.

Claremont capped its season after press time Thursday against Alta Loma.

Girls basketball

The Pack fell 41-27 January 27 at Bonita, but rebounded against Ayala with a 51-47 win Tuesday. The team is 23-4 overall, 7-2 in league, and is tied for first place with both Glendora and Bonita, each also at 7-2.

With a title to play for, Claremont welcomed Alta Loma after press time Thursday. The team will learn its postseason fate once the CIF-Southern Section Division III-AA playoff brackets are released at cifss.org at noon Sunday, February 5.

Boys soccer

Claremont drew 2-2 with Bonita on January 26. On Tuesday, senior defender Nathan Giles notched a late stoppage time winner to elevate the Pack over Ayala, 1-0, on senior night. Tuesday’s win brings the boys’ record to 13-1-6 overall, 6-0-3 in league, and puts them in first place of the Palomares League ahead of Thursday’s Alta Loma game, played after press time.

The Pack’s postseason berth will be determined at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 4 when CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoff brackets are posted at cifss.org.

Girls soccer

Bonita notched a 1-0 victory over Claremont on January 26 but the Pack bounced back Tuesday, defeating Ayala, 1-0. CHS’s record is 17-3-2, 7-1-1 in league.

The first place Wolfpack hosted second place Alta Loma for the Palomares League title after press time Thursday. CIF-Southern Section Division I postseason play will be determined by 10 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at cifss.org.

Girls water polo

The Pack celebrated senior night with a 13-7 win over Whittier on January 26. The La Verne Aquatic Center was Wednesday’s destination for the third place Palomares Carousel match between Claremont and Ayala. The Pack came out on top, 10-8, and is at 15-13 overall and 3-5 in league following Wednesday.

The team will learn its postseason fate once CIF-Southern Section Division III playoff brackets are released at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at cifss.org.

Boys and girls wrestling

The boys wrapped their season last week. Results from the Esperanza Girls Tournament on January 26: senior Frida Palafox placed highest for the Pack, third, at 170. The girls, 5-1 overall, 4-1 in league, head to Bonita Friday for the Palomares League finals.

The Webb Schools

Boys basketball

On January 26, Webb fell to Fairmont San Juan Capistrano, 84-37, then edged Newport Christian, 59-58, on Monday. The Gauls lost a close home game, 33-31, against Santa Ana Valley on Wednesday, leaving the team 6-14 overall, 2-6 in league, and fourth in the Academy League.

Webb caps its season at 6:30 p.m. Friday at AGBU Canoga Park.

Girls basketball

Webb lost, 43-28, to Avalon January 28 before stumbling against Newport Christian, 60-32 on Monday. The results took the Gauls’ record to 6-14 overall, 2-6 in league, and left them in fourth place in the Academy League.

The team hosted Immaculate Heart after press time Thursday to end its season.

Boys soccer

Webb bested Tarbut V’Torah, 2-1, on January 26, and Avalon, 3-0, on January 28. Momentum ran out Monday when Fairmont Prep beat the Gauls, 2-1. On Wednesday, Webb snagged a 3-0 victory over Western Christian, locking them into second place overall in the San Joaquin League standings. Its overall record now stands at 9-6-2, 7-2-1 in league.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, February 4, CIF-Southern Section Division VII playoff brackets will posted at cifss.org.

Girls soccer

On January 27, the Gauls dispatched Pacifica Christian, 2-1, then gave Fairmont Prep a 4-1 beat down on Monday. Webb wrapped up league play with a 2-1 win at Western Christian on Wednesday.

Regardless of Wednesday’s result, the team was due to be crowned San Joaquin League champs with its overall record now at 14-1-2 and a 7-0-1 in league. By 10 a.m. Saturday, February 4, CIF-Southern Section Division III postseason brackets will be uploaded at cifss.org.

Girls water polo

West Covina handed Webb a 17-6 loss on January 26 but the Gauls bounced back against Edgewood with a 15-9 victory Monday. On Tuesday, San Dimas dealt the team a 15-3 loss. Webb’s record stands at 6-14 overall, 0-8 in league. The team finished fourth in Valle Vista League standings.

The Gauls wrapped up the season after press time Thursday against Charter Oak.

Boys wrestling
Scores from the January 25 Montview League cluster against Sierra Vista were not made available to the Courier. The team finished second in league, behind Sierra Vista, with an overall record of 8-4, 4-1 in league.

Webb will send athletes to the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Individual wrestling competition on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11, including freshman Ben Madanski in the 120-weight class, sophomore Armen Xue in the 106 class, sophomore Eric Luo, 152, sophomore Hanbo Xu, 160, junior Pui Fong, 170, senior Conrad Poon, 126, senior Alfonso Alvarez-Seara, heavyweight, and senior Leo Levitin-Shilman, the Montview League’s 220-weight class champion, also in heavyweight. The first match is set for 11 a.m. Friday, February 10.
