Boys and girls cross-country

Results from the Division II CIF-Southern Section Finals on Saturday, November 19: The varsity girls team placed fifth out of 16 teams with a score of 149 in the Division II race. Junior Denise Jie Yi Chen (17:55.9) finished seventh in the heat and was part of the top-15 recognition ceremony. Freshman Isla Bulmer (18:43.6) came in 16th, sophomore Kaitlyn Smith (19:05.9) placed 23rd and juniors Alexa Gossett (19.54.4) and Emily Noyes (20:03.5) placed 54 and 64 respectively.

As one of the top seven teams from Saturday’s Finals, Claremont will participate in the Division II CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, November 26. The girls will race at 12:30 p.m.

The boys did not qualify for the finals or state meets.

Girls tennis

On Monday, November 21, senior singles player Sydney La and doubles teams of junior Camila Fernandez and sophomore Delia Vargas, and senior Angelina Alkhouri and junior Kaili Hernandez competed in the Division I CIF-Southern Section Individual tournament. After a first-round bye, La bested Citrus Hill’s Madison Nehme 2-0 in the second round of sectionals. Nehme would be the only opponent La faced as an injury to Delaney Tingel of Palm Desert in the final gave La the singles title by default. La will participate in the individual championships next Wednesday, November 30.

In doubles play, the team of Fernandez and Vargas defeated Valley View duo Taylor Le and Karen Ambriz 2-0 in the first round, but fell 2-0 against Martin Luther King Jr. High School duo Isabella Doup-Conner and Brookilyn Walker in the following round.

The team of Alkhouri and Hernandez defeated their first-round opponents, Ramona duo Viviana Perez and Jane Allen, 2-0. In the second round, the Pack duo lost 2-0 to Los Osos partners Katelyn Kim and Chloe Hsiung.

Boys basketball
On Tuesday, November 22, the team hosted Yucaipa in a preseason game and lost 59-42.

Next week, the team will participate in the Northview Tournament. Play begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30 when the team takes on Covina. Then on Thursday, December 1, the Pack will face Damien at 7 p.m. On Friday, December 2, Claremont hosts Northview at 5 p.m.

 

Girls basketball
Last Friday, November 18, the team played Martin Luther King High School in the Upland Tournament and won, 44-37. On Saturday, November 19, Claremont beat Vista Murrieta 54-35 in the championship game.

The Pack is off this week and will return to action on Monday, November 28 when they travel to Walnut for a 5 p.m. contest.

 

Boys soccer
Results from the Claremont’s first preseason games were available after press time. On Tuesday, November 22, the Pack traveled to Azusa, and on Wednesday, November 23, the Pack hosted Los Osos.

Next Tuesday, November 29, the team will host Chaffey. Then on Friday, December 2, the Pack continues nonleague play against Ganesha at home. Both kick-offs are set for 5:30 p.m.

 

Girls soccer
The team will not see action until Thursday, December 8 when it hosts Etiwanda at 5:30 p.m.

 

Co-ed wrestling
The team will travel to Los Osos for the Tom Bravo Classic on Saturday, December 3. The first match is set for 9 a.m.

Girls tennis

On Monday, November 21, freshman singles player Anna Park competed in the Division V CIF-Southern Section individual tournament. Park lost in the first round against San Dimas’s Abby Bernhard, 2-0. Sophomore doubles duo Jasmine Beseth and Saira Bhagat withdrew and did not compete.

Boys and girls cross-country

Results from the Division V CIF-Southern Section Finals on Saturday, November 19: the boys team placed 13th out of 16 schools with a combined score of 260. Seniors Etienne Griffon (16:44.1) and Garrett Cordova-Caddes (17:31.6) placed highest for the Gauls, at 17 and 48,  respectively. Three sophomores followed with Griffin Suttner (17:49) at 58, Felipe Murillo (17:59.7) 68, and Finnegan Miller (19:49.4) at 105. The boys missed out on qualifying for the CIF State meet.

For the girls, freshman Nicole Samson (19:06) ran as an individual representing Webb and placed ninth overall in the heat. As one of the top fifteen finishers from Saturday’s Finals, Nicole will participate in the Division V CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, November 26. Nicole will run in the Division V girls race set at 9 a.m.

Boys basketball
The Gauls fell 51-44 at home against Big Bear in nonleague play on Thursday, November 17. The team is off this week and will return to action at home against Rio Hondo Prep next Thursday, December 1 to begin the WSC Varsity Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

Girls basketball
On Thursday, November 17, Webb began the preseason at Gladstone with a 37-23 win. The team is off this week.

The Gauls will return to action for the Cougar Classic tournament at Calvary Baptist in La Verne. On Sunday, November 27 it will face Hew Harvest Christian at 4:30 p.m.; on Wednesday, November 30 Pomona Catholic at 6 p.m.; and on Friday, December 2, the team will face hosts Calvary Baptist at 6 p.m.

Boys soccer
On Thursday, November 17, Webb began the year by hosting Azusa in nonleague play and lost, 2-0.

The team is off this week and will return to action next Tuesday, November 29 at Covina. Kick-off is set for 3:15 p.m. On Thursday, December 1, the team will host Gladstone at 3:15 p.m.

Girls soccer
Webb will open preseason play on Tuesday, November 29 at Rowland. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, December 3, the Gauls will host Azusa at 2 p.m.

 

Girls water polo
On Thursday, November 17, Webb hosted El Rancho to begin the preseason and fell 14-13. The team is off this week and will return to action on Tuesday, November 29 at home against Sierra Vista. The match is set for 3:30 p.m.
