Local high schoolers receive citizenship awards

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society’s Beta Mu chapter recently awarded 13 local area high school seniors its 2023 Citizenship Awards at Trinity United Methodist Church in Pomona. Each student received a framed certificate, a citizenship pin, and a $200 check.

The annual scholarship is presented to students from the Pomona, Bonita, and Claremont unified school districts who have contributed to their schools or community and demonstrated responsibility and confidence growth in the process. School district counselors nominate and select students.

Among those awarded were CUSD students Gloria Quintero of San Antonio High School, and Beatrice Huang of Claremont High. Pomona Unified honorees included Mariah Vega, from Diamond Ranch; Diego Guillermo, Fremont Academy of Engineering and Design; Maria Franco, Ganesha; Samantha Bolzo-Jimenez, Garey; Adrian Rutherford, Park West; Carmen Ayala, Pomona; Heylin Guevara, School of Extended Educational Opportunities; and Daisy Betzaida Garcia-Munoz, Village Academy. Winners from Bonita are Riley Martinez, Bonita; Natalie Bolanos, Chapparal; and Jason Oxon, San Dimas.
