Board approves nearly $50,000 in donations to theatre fund

The Claremont Unified School District Board of Education approved $47,920 in donations to the Claremont High School Theatre Renovation Project.

The renovation committee is currently trying to rise $1.5 million in order to receive a matching $1.5 million California Career and Technical Education grant that will allow for the CHS Theatre department to renovate and increase the size of its current theatre space.

Current plans are to add approximately 5000 square feet of additional space to the theatre that will include more storage space, upgrades to electrical panels and sound infrastructure and the addition of a lobby with restrooms. The project will cost $3 million.

More than $140,000 has been raised for the project so far with committee hoping to raise the full $1.5 million by December. The project must be under contract by June 2012.
