Friends of the Claremont Library host reading events

Friends of the Claremont Library selected The Library Book as its community read this year. There are three upcoming events related to the program. All are free and open to the public.

On Saturday, February 29 at 10 a.m., take a visit to the Scripps College Denison Library, which is home to the papers of former Scripps professor and iconographer of the LA Public Library Hartley Burr Alexander. Denison Library is located at 1090 Columbia Ave., Claremont.

A group discussion of The Library Book and insight from Pomona College professor Anthony Shay is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the Claremont Public Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave.

Possible topics of discussion include the account of the LA Library fire, observations about the library’s history and its early librarians, gender issues, the author’s style as well as her non-linear structure, and much more. Professor Shay has spent years working in the LA Public Library and its branches.

Finally, The Library Book author Susan Orlean will discuss her novel at Garrison Theater in partnership with Scripps Presents with KCRW Press Play host Madeleine Brand. The talk begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24.
