Boys water polo

The boys had a bye week and will return to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22 against Burroughs at home in the Wolfpack Varsity Tournament, followed by a 7:30 p.m. game against Temple City. On Saturday, September 24, tournament action continues with games against two TBA opponents, game times are also TBA.

Girls volleyball

Last Thursday, September 8, the Wolfpack opened Palomares League play at Glendora, where they lost, 3-0.

Last weekend the Wolfpack participated in the Ayala Tournament at Ayala High School. The team’s first game, on Friday, September 9, was a 2-0 victory over La Quinta, followed by an afternoon 1-1 draw against Corona Centennial. On Saturday, September 10, the team tied San Dimas, 1-1, before losing 1-0 to the Saints later in the afternoon in a one-set elimination game.

On Tuesday, September 13, the team scored a 3-0 home league victory over Colony.

The Pack was set to host Bonita after press time Thursday, September 15. Claremont travels to Ayala on Tuesday, September 20, and will host Alta Loma on Thursday, September 22. First serves are 4:30 p.m.

Football

The team was dealt a 28-7 nonleague loss last Friday, September 9, at Colony. Senior running back Brandon Cole scored the Wolfpack’s lone touchdown with about five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Cole finished with 12 carries for 34 yards.

On Friday, September 16, the Pack travels to Alta Loma for a 7 p.m. nonleague game. Next Friday, September 23, the team will host Bonita at 7 p.m.

Boys and girls cross-country

Key results from the Palomares League meet at CHS on Saturday, September 10: out of five schools, the boys varsity team came in third overall with a combined score of 68. Pack runners finished seventh, eighth, 14th, 19th, and 20th to total up the score. Ayala finished first with a score of 24, and Glendora finished second with 42 to round out the top three.

Out of four schools, the girls varsity team placed second overall with 30 points, with runners finishing in the first, third, fifth, 10th and 11th positions. Ayala claimed first with a score of 27. Wolfpack junior and varsity captain Denise Jie Yi Chen placed first in the girls three-mile race with a time of 18:09.53. CHS junior Alexa Gossett placed third at 19:15.09.

On Thursday, September 15, the teams participated in the Woodbridge Cross Country classic at Great Park in Irvine after press time. Results will be posted once available at athletic.net/CrossCountry/meet/206390.

Next Saturday, September 24, the teams will travel up north for the 2022 Nike Portland Cross-Country Invite at Blue Lake Regional Park near Portland, Oregon. Races are set to begin at 9 a.m. Live results can be viewed at: athletic.net/CrossCountry/meet/206753/info.

Girls golf

On Monday, September 12, the team placed first in the Walnut Tournament at the California Country Club in Whittier. The top three teams were Claremont (313), Rowland (329) and Mission Viejo (338). On Wednesday, September 14, the team beat Los Osos, 223 – 268, at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne in a nonleague match.

Next Wednesday, September 21, the team will again host Los Osos at Marshall Canyon. The next day, the team will kick off Palomares League play when it travels to Glendora Country Club to play Glendora.

Girls tennis

Due to last week’s excessive heat, CHS tennis matches were scrapped.

The team returned to action this week with three home matches. On Tuesday, September 13, the Pack closed out the preseason with a 10-8 victory over Temescal Canyon. Then on Wednesday, September 14, it opened up Palomares League play with a 16-2 victory over Alta Loma. Thursday’s nonleague match against Walnut was played after press time.

Next week, the team will again play three matches, each set for 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, September 20, the Pack will travel to Glendora for league action. On Wednesday, September 21, the team will host Redlands in a nonleague match. Finally on Thursday, September 22, the Pack will host Colony to continue league play.

The Webb Schools

Boys water polo

On Friday, September 9, the boys played in the Ayala Tournament at Ayala High School. The team began the competition on a sour note, losing 15-1 to La Habra, then 10-3 to the hosts. The Gauls bounced back on Saturday, September 10, with a 10-2 win over Montclair before losing 19-2 against Don Lugo in the afternoon.

On Tuesday, September 13, the team hosted Montclair in nonleague action, emerging 8-7 victors. Thursday’s Valle Vista league home matchup against Sierra Vista was played after press time.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, the Gauls will host El Rancho in a nonleague match.

Girls volleyball

Last Thursday, September 8, the team’s game at Big Bear was canceled due to fires in the area. On Tuesday, September 13, the Gauls fell 3-0 to Western Christian at home in San Joaquin League play.

On Saturday, September 17, the team will host a league doubleheader against Avalon. The first game is set for 11 a.m., the second around 12:15 p.m.

Football

Last Saturday, September 10, the team’s nonleague game at Stevenson was cancelled. At 1 p.m.  Saturday, September 17, the team will face Silver Valley at home in a Manzanita League matchup.

Next Saturday, September 24, the team will travel to Winchester to face Temecula Prep in Manzanita League play. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.

Girls golf

Last Thursday, September 8, the team beat Marshall Fundamental Secondary School, 240-286, at Eaton Canyon Golf Course in Pasadena in a nonleague match.

On Tuesday, September 13, the Gauls bested West Covina, 232-294, in nonleague play at Alhambra Golf Course. Thursday’s nonleague rematch against West Covina at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne was played after press time.

The team is back in action against Rowland on Saturday, October 1 at Marshall Canyon. Tee-off is set for 3:15 p.m.

Girls tennis

Last Thursday, September 8, the team picked up a 17-1 home victory over Garey. On Tuesday, September 13, the team went to Sierra Vista and won, 15-3.

On Thursday, September 15, the Gauls began their San Joaquin League campaign with a home match against Tarbut V’Torah, which was played after press time.
