Jose Jarin was named as varsity football coach at Claremont High School during the Thursday, February 6 Claremont Unified School District board meeting, according to CHS Principal Brett O’Connor.

Mr. Jarin, who will replace outgoing Head Coach Mike Collins, has been at CHS since 2012, serving as freshman football coach for two years and varsity defensive coordinator last season. Prior to coming to CHS, Mr. Jarin, who goes by the nickname Coco, served as a defensive coach at Claremont McKenna College and at San Bernardino Valley College. From 1998 to 2002, he was defensive coordinator at Mt. San Antonio College.

Mr. O’Connor commented that Mr. Jarin, a Claremont resident, was the ideal candidate for the job.

“Coco understands and upholds the expectations we emphasize, first and foremost success in the classroom, followed by the importance that our student athletes display good citizenship and sportsmanship at all times,” he said. “Of course, we also want a coach that was passionate about football and brings a good understanding of how to continue to build a competitive program.”

Following his appointment Mr. Jarin said, “I am honored and blessed to be adding to the tradition and history here at CHS.”
