On Sunday, December 4, with guitar in hand and a campfire crackling nearby, Claremont resident Beverly Speak led a group of local Girl Scouts performing a familiar song at a place generations have considered a second home. This was no ordinary gathering for the scouts and their guests, but a celebration of the 75th year for Camp La Casita in the hills above Claremont. As the La Casita 75th Anniversary Chorus belted out the words to “Rise Up, O Flame,” a scout leader fanned the campfire and about 75 people sat in a circle around the camp’s central gathering area, many singing along.

At 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 11, Claremont McKenna College will unveil a float it plans to enter in the 2023 Rose Parade during a family fun day at Fiesta Parade Floats.

An El Roble Intermediate School student was arrested by Claremont police Friday for having a replica gun on campus. After being called by school officials at 12:15 p.m., police arrested a 12-year-old Claremont boy for being in possession of an Airsoft gun on school grounds. The student was taken to the Claremont police station, cited, and released to the custody of a guardian. Claremont police haven’t yet said if the boy has been charged with a crime.

Santa Claus gets in close to hear the Christmas wishes of a youngster Friday during the holiday promenade and tree lighting ceremony in the Claremont Village. A large crowd braved cool temps to take in the holiday spirit, which culminated with the lighting of the tree in front of the Claremont Depot.
