Dr. Raymond Kay Brown, a 20-year resident of Pilgrim Place retirement community in Claremont, died March 14 at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, three days after his 87th birthday.

Roger Alan Shervington died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of March 17 at Claremont Care Center in Pomona at the age of 74.

James M. Chick, loved by his wife Karen Reza Chick; his daughter Angela “Angie” Anderson (spouse Mark); his son James “Jimmy” Chick (spouse Christina); his five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a wonderful universe of friends, died peacefully March 7 after an extended struggle with dementia.

Mary Lou Scott (Wagner), a 77-year resident of Claremont, died March 4, just a few weeks shy of her 97th birthday. She was a great light in her family’s life and was affectionately known as “Boo.”

Frank Cookingham died from heart failure at Pomona Valley Hospital on February 8 at the age of 81.

Sarita Uglow Comyns died March 3 in Claremont at the age of 103, just 12 days shy of her 104th birthday.

Hal Haynes was born April 21, 1933 on a farm in rural North Carolina and died peacefully, without pain, at home in Claremont at the age of 89 on July 18, 2022. The cause of death was heart failure. He was the youngest of seven siblings, who all preceded him in death.

Robert Paul Bicker, born June 5, 1930 to Ruth and Ralph Bicker in Pasadena, died March 3 at age 92.

Nancy Waldman, a Claremont resident since 1963, died peacefully in her sleep February 14 at Mt. San Antonio Gardens. She was 98.

Peter Boniface died in Claremont on October 11, 2022 at age 85.

He was born in Epsom, Surrey UK and moved with his parents to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) when he was 11. He studied in Cape Town and Durban, South Africa, and after moving back to the United Kingdom in 1968 he earned a Ph.D. at University College London after completing a study on digital aerial triangulation using a stereo comparator.

Lois Rae (Long) Thompson died February 5 after a short illness at Pilgrim Place retirement community in Claremont, where she had lived for more than 28 years.

Born on November 25, 1929, Lois was raised on the campus of Southern Christian Institute, a boarding school for black students in Edwards, Mississippi, where her parents, John and Olive Long, served on the staff from the 1920s into the 1950s.

Catherine “Cappy” Vail Bridge, WASP pilot and public servant who worked to found the City of Rancho Cucamonga, died peacefully on December 6, 2022, in the company of her family at  Claremont Manor Care Center. She was 102 years old.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Theodore Edmund Alexander on January 18, 2023, at the age of 95,” his family shared.

Much loved wife, mother, and grandmother Edyth Irvine died February 24 at age 83 after several years of cancer illness.

Marianne Rawlings (nee Spaw), beloved matriarch of the Rawlings clan, died peacefully at her daughter Monique’s home in Villa Park, California in the early morning of February 3, one week before her 92nd birthday.

Marianne was born February 10, 1931, on her maternal grandparents’ farm near Arbor Hill, not far from Greenfield, Iowa. Her mother was Floy Wilma Spaw (nee Bunce), and her father was Clarence William Spaw. Although she mostly lived and attended school in Des Moines, she spent many happy hours on the farm with “grama” Milly Jane (nee Pryor) and “grampa” Grant Bunce.
