Nearly $2.5 million pledge to Pomona College aims to expand access to middle-income families

Pomona College alumni and supporters Sam and Emily Glick recently pledged $2,474,747.47 million to support financial aid resources for future Pomona College students from middle-income families, a news release read. Sam Glick is the outgoing chair of the board of trustees.

“We are deeply grateful for Sam and Emily’s generosity in establishing the President’s Fund for Middle-Class Access,” Pomona College President G. Gabrielle Starr wrote in a statement. “Their support will provide more than scholarships; it will provide access and opportunity to pursue life-changing work and invaluable academic experiences for students who often don’t consider Pomona. The gift is a powerful investment with resounding impact for the College, our students, their promising futures and the many who will follow.”

The gift aims to help the college grow its number of middle-income applicants and admitted students “to achieve a student community that accurately reflects the full economic spectrum of the United States,” the news release read. It also follows the Glicks’ 2019 gift of $625,000 that created the Faculty Fund for Creative Collaboration, “which supports cross-disciplinary research collaborations among faculty from distinct departments,” the release continued.
