City announces award-winning designs in Claremont
The Claremont Colleges feature heavily among the honorees of this year’s Excellent in Design Awards, which were announced this week. For the past 32 years, the Claremont Architectural Commission has awarded organizations with notable achievements in landscape, renovation, sustainable development and signage throughout the city of Claremont.
Pomona College, Land Images, Campus and Planning Design won in the category of landscaping for the college’s Dartmouth Open Space, located between Second Street and Bonita Avenue. Pomona College also took home honors along with Biesek Design for the college’s overall campus-wide signage. The commission recognized the Claremont University Consortium’s work in the Honnold/Mudd Library renovation as well as Pitzer College, Carrier Johnson, PCL Construction and CUMMING for sustainable development in the building of the Pitzer College’s Phase II dormitories. Kurt Keilhacker, Wheeler and Wheeler Architects, RCS Construction and SU Bacon were also recognized for sustainable efforts with the Keilhacker residence, located at 1201 North College Avenue. The Claremont Optometry Group and A Plus Sign Shop round up this year’s list of honorees for their sign at 695 West Foothill Boulevard.
The winners will be formally recognized at the architectural commission meeting to be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 225 W. Second St.
