The Claremont City Council agreed to protect Claremont’s renters from certain “no fault” evictions this week, but ran out of time to hammer out the details, delaying a final decision on a larger package of renter protections to its May 9 meeting.

“Turn of the century” is a term used to describe a group of residential styles popular from the late 1880s through the 1910s.

In September of 1972, five members from Our Lady of the Assumption Church’s Christian family movement group banded together for social action: addressing food insecurity in and around Claremont. And 50 years later, Claremont Meals on Wheels has yet to miss a day of service.

The California State Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection voted 9-0 in favor of the California Journalism Preservation Act (CJPA, AB 886) at an important hearing this week in Sacramento.

Pitzer College’s Michelle Muturi, and Elisa Velasco, from Pomona College, recently received perhaps the biggest prize of their undergraduate careers: the 2023 Napier Initiative Award.

“Margaret (“Margee”) Shelton Meier (March 7, 1936 – March 20, 2023) composer, musician, and teacher, left this world with a legacy of beautiful music that has been performed on several continents,” her family shared.

Last spring Claremont’s real estate market was running pretty hot. Fueled by scant inventory, competitive interest rates and all-cash buyers, bidding wars were the norm. Now that interest rates have risen significantly, one would imagine prices would come down to earth, but that hasn’t happened.

Cal Poly Pomona’s annual Pepperzania sale begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Farm Store, 4102 S. University Dr., Pomona, with more than 160 pepper plants including serrano, jalapeno, hatch, Poblano, Peruvian, and Asian.

Thousands of pedestrians from cities neighboring Claremont took to the streets Sunday morning and into the early evening hours in recognition of the 626 Golden Streets Heart of the Foothills event.

The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve is one of the most well known and popular Southern California spots to see spring wildflowers in bloom. Located about 15 miles west of Lancaster, these fields are especially plentiful and colorful this year due to our extremely wet and snowy winter.

The California poppies are so abundant even the drive out Highway 138 provides excellent sightseeing along the two-hour trek from Claremont. Instead of taking the normal route up Interstate 5 north toward Castaic Junction, another option is heading east to Interstate 15 north, then catching 138 west to Highway 14 and following the signs through Lancaster. This route will take a few minutes longer but is well worth the trip.

Every Thursday morning, Mount Baldy artist Elizabeth Preston sets herself up at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for a unique therapy.

Preston, an Expressive Arts Institute instructor, oversees the hospital’s long Covid recovery program, Rehabilitation via Inspiration, a creative journaling course that helps patients navigate the emotional aspects of COVID-19.
